Homemade Soy Drink: Made with love

Last Sunday, the cooking team (yes, it's a team now = Abi, Mummy, Hasanah, Nadirah + Opah&Epoi acting as food critic) has successfully produced our first batch of Soy Drink from our dear kitchen. 1st attempt and it was a success! It's not rocket science like I always thought.

Ingredient: Soy, water, sugar and pandan leaves (100g of soy : 1 litre of water)

The soy was soaked overnight and we then peeled off the skin - yes, each one! (the most painful part of the process) I think Nadirah was the only one who enjoyed this peeling process cause she got a big license to wet her clothing without Mummy being angry at her.

Blend them. Then strained the soy milk through a fine-mesh strainer into the pot. (or any clean baby-lampin like material).

Finally bring to a boil over low-high heat and sweeten to taste. Don't forget to put pandan leaves for a fresh, yummy aroma.

The verdict: Very delicious alhamdulillah! Epoi said it taste like Yeos (he's exaggerating!)
:-)

If any of you have a better recipe, let me know. I'd like to experiment more.

Brain Food for Our Baby!

Knew this blog from my dear friend, MommyLyna MSK, thanks alot Lyna! Her name is Lina too, what a coincidence. Anyway, this blogger Momma is truly inspiring. Her daughter has memorized Juzuk 30 at a tender age of 3! Masya-Allah. Allahuakbar! At this challenging era, it's really important for us to provide our children with ilmu Al-Quran, that's one and only way to safeguard us not only from Neraka Allah yang kekal abadi, but also from social ills in our society.

Make learning Al-Quran as our top priority, above others i.e. piano classes, bellerina classes, Kumon etc. And make sure that our spouse is also sharing the same mission like you do. For example, if I can spend USD$99 on Little Reader, will I do the same too for Al-Quran classes, softwares, IQRA' etc. Tak sanggup? Oh, cinta kita kepada dunia masih tinggi. Astagfirullahhalazim. Oh Allah, please guide us to the straight path, Ya Allah. Amin amin Ya Rabbal 'Alamin.

We will die. Surely. The equation is simple and logic, not a rocket science:

Anak soleh = Insya-Allah bahagia lah kita dalam kubur
Anak toleh = Meraunglah kita di sana, tiada suami, mak, abah - tiada siapa sebagai penolong.

Marilah kita tinggalkan anak2 yg soleh dan solehah sebagai asset kita nanti. Bukan sekadar soleh di-bibir, tp sebenar-benar soleh-solehah. If all the mommas in the world bersungguh-sungguh nak melahirkan anak-anak yang patuh pd ajaran Islam, insya-Allah amanlah dunia ini. Hey, I'm still learning to become a good mom too, I admit I'm not doing the right thing all the time. Hiccups do happen. Don't repeat my mistakes if you read/know any and just select whatever you think is following what Islam wants.

Below is Lina's entry on Brain Food. I'm inspired. Start it early, start it now Mummiess!

1) Kacang Badam (Almond)
Ia terkenal kerana kandungan minyaknya.

4) Kurma

5) Madu

6) Buah Tin

7) Habbatus Sauda

8) Ekstrak Daun Zaitun Olive Oleo

Selamat Mencuba..

October.

Quick updates: (from the latest to oldest)

1. Today took a day off and went to IDP Ozy Education Fair @ Subang. Applied 3 uni's (Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide) since the application fees are waived if applied @ the fair. Saved at least (the unnecessary cost) aud$400. Going or not is a different story. Looking at the current prospect, if the A is still on throne, chances are as slim as kate moss. But Allah Almighty knows best. Janji xyah bayar application fees adoi mahal gilerrr. Apelah merepek sgt ni nak charge2 org pulak.

2. Even if we're not going to IDP, I'm still taking a day off today celebrating MrJ's bday (tomorrow) @ the backyard of Istana Agong. Oh how Romantic! He wants IkanBakar Bellamy as his birthday treat. Great! That doesn't cost me a bomb so I'm more than happy to belanje! :-) Thanks hubs, you're the greatest!

3. Yesterday, had a short trip to HnyB's paed @ Princ3C. My lil prof has done some damages to her scalp while trying to finish her experimental PhD work in her Lab. I told her don't stress up like Mummy but she refuses to listen and keep on scratching her head. Terus keluar larva dari otak. Adoi. Pening la Mummy ini mcm Baby Einstein ku.

4. Last Sat was her 9mo birthday! Alhamdulillah. Hiphiphoooreehh.

5. We celebrated her birthday earlier (by a week) and brought her to Aquaria. Actually Mummy and Abi yg terlebih excited nak tengok fiissshhhhhh. Best btol. We weew lucky coz it was Sharks' Week (or Abi's week!) and managed to see 2 divers feeding the sharks. Marbelous! Thanks Abi belanje us!

6. Oh last weekend makan at Chengho with my Mom and this coming weekend again with MrJ's whole family except KNa to celebrate the October babies in the family - MrJ and his Bro, Abg Yas.

7. Last Wednesday had another day off and cabut gigi and girls day out with Bugsy at MidValley. Feels like 17 again. (except for the part at the dentist)

Hadramawt, here we come!

Insya-Allah tomorrow we'll be joining the OS family to iftar @ Hadramawt, Chulan Square. Can't wait.

The whole article below is from www.foodstreet.com. Mouth watering pictures. Mmg x sesuai ditonton di siang hari bulan Ramadhan..

Hadramawt : Authentic Middle Eastern and Yemeni Cuisine @ Chulan Square

We all have certain food preferences, but sometimes, we need to get out of our comfort zone to find out what has our country’s multiculturalism brought to our shore.

Perhaps this new restaurant in Chulan Square would be the best place to get started. Proclaimed to be the first Yemeni restaurant in Malaysia, Hadramawt opened its doors to the public on 1st January 2008, offering an extensive array of authentic Middle Eastern and some Lebanese cuisine, with the recipes all derived from the original country.

Just for reference, Hadramawt (or Hadramaut) is a historical region of the south Arabian Peninsula along the Gulf of Aden, part of Yemen.

The ambiance was very much influenced by Arabian concept, with carved wooden motifs, colourful lamps, carpets and pictures of the real Hadramawt itself. You can choose either to sit on ground level or upstairs but according to the manager, Mr. Hamza, his patrons prefer the latter. If you think that you saw the interior somewhere before, you are right as Hadramawt was featured in the local Malay drama, Janji Diana.

Fried Kebah

Although Hadramawt does not provide set lunch or dinner, fret not as the price tags for a la carte items were surprisingly reasonable. For a good appetite-whetter, the Deep Fried Kebah (RM 12), is a good starter. Being a deep fried dish made from minced lamb and herbs, it’s crispy at the outside while remain flavourful at the inside and doesn’t have the typical strong lamb odour. The Shrimp Cocktail (RM 30) is visually appealing; boiled shelled shrimps served with lettuce and Thousand Island sauce.

Shrimp Cocktail

Fattoosh

If meat isn’t your preferred choice, how about some greens as substitute? We absolutely adore a type of Arabic salad called Fattoosh (RM 8), an interesting mix of diced tomato, green onion, fresh parsley, mint, sliced romaine lettuce, toasted pita bread and molasses. Slightly tangy but you can practically feel the freshness of the ingredients burst in your mouth!

Mixed Grill

Mixed Salad

If you wanna try the meat but not too adventurous, perhaps you can go for the Mixed Grilled Lamb and Chicken (sheesh tawooq) combination (RM 20) which somehow resembles kebab, minus the sticks. For vegetarian, Mixed Salad (RM 20) is a good choice; it basically consist of 8 types of vegetarian dishes in one platter such as Fattoosh, Mutabal, Baba Ghanog, Hummos and Tehenah salad. Most of them are served in the grinded form which looks like a paste to go with pita bread except Fattoosh.

Haneed Lamb

Also worth mention are the Haneed Lamb (RM 21) and also Fahsa (RM 20), being both a lamb dish. The Haneed Lamb was firstly wrapped in aluminium foil with spices and slowly cooked over charcoal, resulting a very succulent and tender lamb meat and served on a bed of fluffy Mendy rice. The Fahsa on the other hand, is a stew made of lamb cutlets with lamb soup, spices and "holba" (an ingredient which looks like cheese after it’s cooked) in a deep pot made of stone.

Extra points:
  • Al fresco section is available upstairs for smoking patrons.
  • Accepts private functions with private rooms and surau (open for Muslim customers) and also outside catering.
  • All dishes are halal (no pork).
  • Accept most credit card (Visa, Mastercard and American Express).
  • 10% discount available for Middle Eastern students.
  • Parking spaces available behind the restaurant.
Will I be back? Certainly I do, especially after my love affair with Fattoosh and Haneed Lamb.

H1N1 and Acidic Food

I got this from a forwarded email of my biras, and I was not surprise when the Prof's founding is to consume more alkaline food and drink because high acidity in our body may weaken our immune system, thus making the body more vulnerable to any kind of diseases including H1N1.

In actual fact, the Prophet Rasulullah saw has portrayed his action of consuming alkaline food/drink in many hadeeth as a leading example for us. For instance, Air Zam-zam is highly alkaline and the miracle of the zam zam water is unquestionable. Besides that, Rasulullah also loved goat's milk and science have proven that goat's milk is alkaline in nature, just like Mom's milk whereas cow's milk produce an acid reaction which promotes the growth of bacteria, fungi and virus. Read more on alkaline and acidic food here. And do you know that now goat's milk is available in powder form produced by local Muslim Bumiputera co? I can confirm you that there's no goaty stingy smell whatsoever and me and hubby love it! We add that in our Vico or Kopi Radix as a substitute to creamer - the result is fantabulous! Dah xpayah bubuh gula sbb rasa lemak susu kambing amat sedap, so save some calories from taking sugar. I'm currently taking Hiraq and HR Higoat as my daily milk intake and slowly saying goodbye to cow's milk. If and only if HnyB have to consume formula, goat's milk is definitely my 1st choice. (the price is way above the ceiling so I hope my milk is enough for all my babies forever. Hoho) My millionaire boss' baby drinks goat's milk since he was 6mo. Anak org kaye. hohoh.

Anyway, the prof suggests to drink coconut water. Read this article or visit his blog to read further. Take care peeps!

Former associate professor of ecology at Universiti Malaya has authored several books on complementary therapy called, 'Ecological Healing System'.

Dr Palaniappan said his 33 years of research had shown that high acidity in the body resulted in loss of immunity, thus making people more susceptible to viral diseases like Influenza A (H1N1).

Hence, to prevent acidity, it was essential to consume alkaline food and drinks that could neutralise excess acid in the body.

Dr Palaniappan recommends coconut water, which is alkaline, and therefore could be used as a herbal medicine for the prevention of H1N1.

For example, he said, those who felt feverish and developed a burning sensation while attending to a call of nature because of extreme acidity, could neutralise it by drinking coconut water, twice a day, for three days.

He also recommended orange, lemon and pomelo which, despite containing citric acid, were very rich in potassium and therefore, would not disturb the body's immunity.

According to Dr Palaniappan, excessive physical activity like running a marathon should be avoided as it produced acid due to excessive metabolic activity.

Similarly, he said, keeping late nights without adequate sleep and working without proper rest could also increase the body's acidity which in turn, lowered immunity and made the body vulnerable to viral attacks.

Dr Palaniappan's blog: http://ecohealingsystem.blogspot.com/ discusses the therapy in more detail.

Birthday Celebration

Jumaat malam sabtu, on the way back from Al-Kauthsar, HnyB was a bit cranky coz she was sleepy so we decided not to go home straight away. It's easier to calm her down in a moving car rather than in our very own crib.

As always, this madam was so hungry(all the time!) so we planned to jalan2 cari makan for late dinner/supper. Since ages I eying kedai Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kpg Baru at Taman Melati. It wasn't that far from our place, so Abi agreed to bring us there.

It was SO hard to get a parking space over there since the restaurant is berjiran with the ever famous Sate Kajang Hj Samuri which was super-crowded that nite. Org beratur ok nak order sate. Luckily alhamdulillah, HnyB was sleeping when we arrived at the restaurant. First impression, the ambiance was superb, the colour scheme - white and apple green + wooden element makes the place looks elegant and clean.

Abi then said, "Ni kire terus celebrate birthday Hunny la eh?" Hoho. Agreed! We don't have the luxury of time to spent together (eating out especially and hv HnyB to kendong) so ape saje depan mate, we just grab it.

So, what did we order?

Nasi lemak x2, Side dishes - ayam goreng berempah and ayam masak merah, keropok lekor, teh tarik and lai ci kang. HnyB was sleeping soundly (we put her on the long cozy sofa, thanks to Mummy bawak bantal sampai3 ketul) throughout till my last few suapan baru dy merengek.

The food was good AND over-priced. All in all, the place is convenient to bring a baby along tp try sekali dah cukup kot, next time beli nasik lemak from makcik at my apartment pun dah sodappp.

Thanks hubby belanje Hny & HnyB! :-)

What Mummy Likes to Eat

Wanna know which food my mummy loves lots and feeds me most of the time:

1. Chicken. Anything that has chicken in it, gives it to mummy. If mummy dunno what to buy after 10 times tawaf-ing the cafeteria, she'll end up buying nasi ayam.

2. Bihun goreng. The white one (Singapore style) or the Melayu Brown Bihun, semua mummy makan. You know my mummy.

3. Apple. Apple. Apple. Orange. Apple.

Somehow mummy jarang makan ikan while she's having me. I'm not sure why.

Makan Time

Today Mummy ate lotsssss of food. Maybe she thought she's having triplets.

Mummy, I am all alone here!

They were having GungHo Monthly Party during lunch time to celebrate August babies.

After this one uncle finished reciting doa makan, Mummy quickly rushed to soto corner, grab a bowl of soto, then snatched a slice of pizza. After swallowing the pizza, (thanks Mummy, Hnyb likesss pizza so much!) Mummy ate Nasi Ayam. Mind you, Mummy's soto is still untouched. Then, Mummy had a spoonful of pasta goreng. After that, Mummy realized she has a soto to finish. Gosh Mummy. I'm full already!

p/s-Sorry sayang, Mummy was a mami-monster just now. Mummy was so hungry.. Love u :*
