No-Dairy, will you?

"Professor Plant courageously tells a compelling and very personal story on breast cancer that is a must-read, not only for women interested in this disease but also for the scientific and medical communities, who should sit up and take notice. It is time that the long-alleged nutritional worthiness of dairy be brought up for discussion."
--T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D., Jacob Gould Schurman Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University, project director of the China-Oxford-Cornell Diet and Health Project, joint chairman of the Diet and Cancer Project of the American Institute for Cancer Research, and co-chairman of the World Cancer Research Fund.
"This important, provocative book by an impressive author cannot be ignored. Through this breathtaking personal odyssey, Jane Plant forces us all to think differently about the causes of breast cancer. Indispensable reading."
--Devra Lee Davis, Ph.D., M.P.H., Clinton Administration appointee to the National Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, visiting professor, Carnegie Mellon University
"Dr. Jane Plant provides a much-needed challenge to the conventional paradigm in dealing with the epidemic of breast cancer. This authoritative, well-researched but easily read text finally provides a focus on the powerful science of disease prevention. Here are the tools allowing women the ability to reduce their risk."
--David Perlmutter, M.D., director of the Permutter Health Center, Naples, Florida
"[This book] should be read by every...woman wishing to avoid breast cancer and to live life to her fullest potential. The book is well documented and easy to read. Your doctor should be recommending it to you."
--John McDougall, M.D., medical director of the McDougall Program, St. Helena Hospital, Napa Valley, California

Your Life in Your Hands
It's Been An Exciting Time
Professor Jane Plant was our very first "Living Proof", in July 2002, and what a story she had to tell! Her battle against breast cancer took so many twists and turns that she recorded it in her recently updated bestseller Your Life in Your Hands so that others could benefit from her research and experiences. Awarded a CBE for services to science, Professor Plant is still a member of many government committees and Chief Scientist of the British Geological Survey.
Two and half years ago she told us how she beat progressively more advanced breast cancer five times. First diagnosed 17 years ago, when her two children were still at home, she underwent conventional treatment, including a mastectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and was given three months to live. Her life changed when her osteopath told her to give up dairy products. Within six weeks the lump in her neck (the cancer had spread to the lymph) had shrivelled and disappeared. It is the mixture of science and personal experience that makes Jane's case against dairy products, if you have breast or prostate cancer, unarguable. Now just weeks away from her 60th birthday, she tells us what she's been up since we told her story.
"I've been very busy and have written another four books - something I would never have thought possible before! I've also moved to London and am enjoying doing up my house. It's been an exciting time too, because I have been given honorary professorships at Exeter and Kingston universities, been made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and became the first woman President of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy.
I use acupuncture, weekly-to-monthly counselling and my diet to get me through
Professionally it's been fantastic, but I have had a lot of problems and stress in other areas (personal and work) so I'm not convinced of the role stress plays in breast cancer. If it was a problem, I should have had my cancer back, but I check myself very carefully and am OK. I think it's important to be honest, and I have had the odd touch of depression in the last couple of years. I've been prone to that since my teens and am pretty good at overcoming it. I think the fact that I suffer from anxiety and depression and got through cancer is quite important. I use acupuncture, weekly-to-monthly counselling and my diet to get me through.
When I read all the anti-soya publicity, the cynic in me has to laugh. It's utter nonsense to say that soya is going to cause problems because it's oestrogenic - scientific nonsense! There are three points to make here:
1: The Chinese have virtually lived on soya in the past and they had next to no breast or prostate cancer. When I've been in China, I've spoken to doctors who have never seen a case of either.2: The phytoestrogens in soya are between 1/500th and 1/1000th the strength of human oestrogen. They are thought to lock onto receptors in breast or prostate tissue and protect them from animal oestrogen in the way Tamoxifen does - but without the side effects.3: Most plants contain phytoestrogens, so the idea that these are dangerous is ludicrous. Recent research shows that the main pathway of animal oestrogens in the diet is from dairy. That is far more significant than soya. In The Plant Programme, the book I wrote with Jill Tidey, we explain that the typical healthy Japanese diet is based on 30 separate ingredients a day, not just soya. So use it to replace dairy and if you're allergic, try rice, pea or oat milk.I particularly want to get the message across to men as they're very difficult to reach. Prostate cancer is fast becoming the biggest killer cancer of men and I very much want them to read my latest book, Prostate Cancer: Understand, Prevent and Overcome to prevent themselves getting this horrid disease.
I also wrote Understanding, Preventing and Overcoming Osteoporosis because everyone kept saying they would get it if they went on my diet. I thought I'd better do some responsible research and found the opposite to be true. It's nonsense for doctors to say that if you cut out dairy you'll get osteoporosis.
Countries that have the most dairy and animal product have the most osteoporosis. Cheese is the most bone-damaging food you can ever have. I used to love it but, knowing how dangerous it is, I don't touch it.
I don't think of myself as a cancer patient any longer. It's 17 years since I was first diagnosed and I hope all that's in the past. When I look to the future I hope that more people will read my books and prevent their cancers and, in my own case, that my family is happy."
All Jane Plant's books are published by Virgin Books.

Weekend of book lovers
For book lovers , weekend is the best time to be a couch potato or snuggle under the duvet and read the endless books on the shelf. No. Not really. A mother cum book lover can't do that. Kene curik2 mase coz on weekend the baby will ask Mummy, "Me or the Book?"
Fuh. Anyway, I plan to do a lot of reading over the weekend, insya-Allah.
The books on queue are:

My new IM emailed me the .pdf version of this 291-pages book (below). I just started this morning and stopped at page-4. I'm dead! Will try to cover at least the first 2 chapters before he questioned my reading speed. The book is extremely interesting. If there's a Master course on Power System Economics in Malaysia, I would die to do it. Adekah?

Last but not least, the book that is still pending for many weeks:

Keajaiban Thibbun Nabawi. Yummehhh! Borrowed the book from Dr Tum. Have to finish it asap. Interesting interesting..
Okeh, itu je dulu. Jgn tamak. :-) I've finished reading "What you need to know about.." (cancer book) the night before seeing the oncologist and now the book is with my IM. We exhanged books. Hoho. He's interested with cancer thingy and in fact want one of his children to be cancer expert. Hoho. I hope Epoi will be one too, ye Epoi?

Must read books on Cancer
But for this quick post, I strongly suggest every one on the universe to read these books below - cancer survivors, caretakers, and anyone interested in health and wellness. The first two was suggested by Mr R, the rest are written by Prof Chris Teo and I got/bought all these books from Puan Khadijah and hubby, Yeong at SS19 Subang Jaya. You may visit www.cacare.com for further info on herbal treatment on cancer. Even if your cancer marker is within range (yes, everyone has cancer cell in body, I've done my blood test to check the CA Marker and you can do the same too at any (paid) Lab), please educate yourself and family so that you're better informed, make and informed decision for yourself and family, lead a healthy lifestyle, avoid cancer-friendly food and Insya-Allah moga2 usaha kecil kita to know who cancer is before it strike us or our loved ones, nauzubillah will help us to make better decision in our everyday life, amin.

When David Servan-Schreiber, a dedicated scientist and doctor, was diagnosed with brain cancer, his life changed. Confronting what medicine knows about the illness and the little-known workings of his body’s natural cancer-fighting capabilities, and marshaling his own will to live, Servan-Schreiber found himself on a fifteen-year journey from disease and relapse into scientific exploration and, finally, to health. Combining memoir, concise explanation of what makes cancer cells thrive and what inhibits them, and drawing on both conventional and alternative ways to slow and prevent cancer, Anticancer is revolutionary. It is a moving story of a doctor’s inner and outer search for balance; radical in its discussion of the environment, lifestyle, and trauma; and compelling and cautionary in its proposal that cancer cells lie dormant in all of us—and that we all must care for the “terrain” in which they exist.
Advocating a sea change in the way we understand and confront cancer, Anticancer is a radical synthesis of science and personal experience, an inspiring personal journey, and certainly a guide to “a new way of life.”
Anticancer tells us:
- Why the traditional Western diet creates the conditions for disease and how to develop a science-based anticancer diet
- How and why sugar and stress feed cancer—and ways to achieve life balance and good nutrition to combat it
- Why the effects of helplessness and unhealed wounds affect our ability to restore health
- How to reap the benefits of exercise, yoga, and meditation
- How to minimize environmental toxins
- How to find the right blend of traditional and alternative health care

Mike Anderson, the author and Director of his very own DVD with the same tittle has shaken the world with hard facts on cancer. If you think you can swallow it, then get this book and read. Honestly, I can't stop reading it and my jaw keep on dropping to the floor. My Jaws' jaw also does the same. Please spare your time and read. Please educate yourself and don't simply put your life's fate on anyone in the hospital without knowing what is coming and the politics behind the white coat and stethoscope. Do you know that the drugs that you consume day in day out only help to relief symptom (short term), not actually treating the root cause of the symptom? Do you know that you have lots of alternative ways to treat your sickness without drugs? Iqra' ladies and gentlemen. Later I'll put up books that focusing on Perubatan Mengikut Sunnah insya-Allah.
I have to put the book on hold first because I need to finish the following book, "What you need to know...".

The rest below are still in queue. My new interest on Cancer Books may explain the needs of another Billy :-)

You can purchase these book from here.
Is Doctor a God?

Knowledge is power!
Happy reading!

How to Teach Your Baby...
Last week I finished reading the book - How to Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence by Glen&Janet Doman. In parallel, MrJ read How To Teach Your Baby Maths by the same authors and finished about the same time with me.
These are the 2 books that made our headlines everyday. Until today, we keep on discussing about the method used by Doman in teaching babies. Subhanallah. I thank Allah for giving us the opportunity to know bout them and their wonderful collection of Gentle Revolution Series.
Here are some of the excerpt of the book I read.
It's Good, Not Bad, To Be Intelligent [Chapter 4]
Indeed, it's very good.
"The difference between intelligence and education is this - that intelligence will make you a good living." - Charles Franklin Kettering -
From the book I read, I realized that many of us worship muscles but fear intelligence. We want our children to be strong but we fear them to be highly intelligent. We waited until it's too late to introduce them with learning. Education is boring, learning isn't.
Today we debated whether this intelligence is heredity in nature or whether it is environmental. That divides the world into two school of thoughts. Some said it's heredity and some said environment.
What say you? Find the answer in [Chapter 5].
Everything Leonardo Learned [Chapter 7]
Babies are born with a rage to learn. They want to learn about everything and they want to about it right NOW.
Tiny kids think that learning is the greatest thing that ever happened. The world spends the first 6 years of life trying to tell them that learning isn't the greatest thing in life and that PLAYING is.
Some kids never learnt that playing is the greatest thing in life and as a result those kids all the way through life believing that learning is the greatest thing in life. Those are the ones we call geniuses.
The truth is that little kids don't want to play and that they do ask an unending series of questions - and what superb questions they are.
"Daddy what holds the stars up in the shy?"
"Mommy, why is the grass green?"
"Daddy, how does the little man get into the television set?"
Those are brilliant questions - precisely the same questions that top-flight scientists ask.
Our answer, in one way or another, is, "Look kid, Daddy is very busy deciding what we ought to do in the Middle East situation. Why don't you run off and play while Daddy thinks."
And that VERY answer kills the kid's nature to learn.
Ok, let say we gave the kid a rattle or toy truck which he had never seen before in hope that this will get his attention.
First he looked at it (which is why toys are painted in bright colours).
Next he listened to it (which is why toys make noises).
Next he felt it (which is why toys don't have sharp ages).
Then he tasted it (which is why toys are made with non-poisonous materials).
Finally he smells it (we haven't figured out how toys should smell yet so they don't smell).
That clever and dicerning process of using every laboratory test available to him to learn everything there is worth learning about this piece of junk called a toy takes about 60 seconds.
But the child is not only clever, he is ingenious. There is one more thing he might learn. he might learn how it is put together by breaking it apart.
So he tries to break it. It takes about 30 seconds for him to find out that he can't break it. So he throws that away. This is why of course, toys are unbreakable.
The whole process takes 90 seconds.
The question is, " How long should anybody look at a rattle?" The answer should be, "As long as there's something to learn from it."
Everything a child learns in his life he learns through those five paths. He can see it, hear it, feel it, taste it and smell it.
Everything that Leonardo learned he learned through those five pathways.
All Kids Are Linguistic Geniuses [Chapter 8]
To a child born in Philadelphia tonight English is a foreign language. It is no more no less than German, Italian, Swahili and Urdu.
By one year of age, he understands a good deal and is beginning to say his first words.
By two year of age he understands a great deal and has rudiment ability to speak it.
By three years of age he understands and speaks it fluently enough to get by in almost any situations.
By six, he speaks it perfectly to his own environment.
If he's born in bilingual household where two languages are actually spoken, he speaks two languages. If three languages, then three - and so on, if not ad infinitum, at least as far as there are languages.
It is easier to teach a one-year-old a foreign language than it is to teach a seven-year-old.
That's because all tiny children are linguistic geniuses.
To be continued...
.
..
...
....
...
..
.
I'll stop at Chapter 9 first, don't want to drag this post too long. It took me almost 2-long-week to finish up the book.[almost 400 pages] (I'll read this during pumping sessions at the office :-) Discussion with MrJ is on going till now. At first we planned to start a systematic learning program for Nadirah by her 5th month birthday. But then, after reading these 2 books, we realized that we need more time to prepare for the learning materials. In addition, our Brillkid Little Reader has been upgraded into new, more versatile and more flexible software. Mummy and Abi has to familiarize with the software before we go on board. Fuhhhh.. So many things to do and we're working 8-5 at the same time! Anyhow, I truly enjoy this journey with Abi - priceless. [Nadirah, when you read this later, you'll know that Mummy and Abi really2 want you to success in life herein and hereafter. Mwahssss]
The books actually teach us details on how to design a practical program with our babies. How to teach your baby Math/Read/Encyclopedic Knowledge - although these topics are included in How to Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence, but the details, preparatory work need to be done are all fully outline in it's very own individual book.
GDoman Gentle Revolution Series are suitable for all parents with babies or going-to-be parents. The current book I'm on [How Smart Is Your Baby?] is very very vital for parents-to-be so that they can prepare themselves and start developing and nurture the coming newborn up to his/her full potential. Start it early and start it smartly! It is a great book for pregnant Mummies!
If you're stuck,
or you think your baby is not learning enough,
or you have no idea where to start from,
or you're looking for a guideline to teach your baby,
or you don't know what to teach,
or you think your baby doesn't like the books/flashcard you bought,
or your budget is too tight to send your babies to expensive classes,
then,
these books are the best place for you to start soul-searching and finding the answers for all your questions about you and your baby. From their research, if we want to teach our baby almost anything, teach them before six. Even better before 3! And most optimal period from newborn to two :-)
We've been thinking that probably we can use Doman's method to teach our babies to read Al-Quran. Of course we can! We'll see what we can do and Insya-Allah we'll share our experience later. Wish us luck!
The best ever line in this book that I like is:
"The truth is that the raising of children is too important to be left to anyone other than mothers and fathers."
And Rasulullah has actually said it earlier:
Sabda Rasulullah :
Hadis riwayat Bukhari
Masya-Allah. May Allah bless our journey to bring up our children and later our grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren to be a true Muslim. Amin.

Cinta Di Rumah...

Hassan Al-Banna. (HAB)
Read this book in the car during our 3rd road trip to Kuantan. I was so impatient and felt like telling MrJ all the things I was reading while he was driving and everytime, my punch line would be, "Ok, ni yang last sekali Hny bgtau Abg." Why? Because every single page I read in the book has a great impact on me. And I wanna share that with MrJ. But. But. But. I do not want to be the spoiler coz MrJ wanted to read the book too. Baru feel sikit. By the time we reached Kuantan, MrJ has prolly known half of the content. Hehe. I'm a good story teller, I must say.
Ok, about the book. Who is HAB?
Hassan al-Banna (October 14, 1906 – February 12, 1949, Arabic: Øسن البنا) was an Egyptian social and political reformer, best known for founding the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the largest and most influential 20th century Muslim revivalist organizations. Al-Banna's leadership was critical to the growth of the brotherhood during the 1930s and 1940s. (source: Wikipedia)
This book is concentrating on HAB as a father. What was his role in bringing up his 6 children and how he divided his time to be with his family. As a leader and the founder of Jamiat al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun, he could still find quality time to spend with his family. This book basically shares with the readers the stories of a father as told by his children. His children are:
1) Wafa : Anak sulung. Isteri kepada pendakwah terkenal Dr Said Ramadhan al-Buthi. Berumur 17 tahun ketika al-Banna wafat.
2) Ahmad Saiful Islam : Peguam. Bekas anggota parlimen Mesir. Seorang kader Ikhwan yang aktif sehingga kini.
3) Dr Thana : Pensyarah urusan rumahtangga di pelbagai universiti di Arab Saudi. Berumur 11 tahun ketika al-Banna meninggal dunia.
4) Ir Raja’: Engineer. Berumur 5 tahun ketika bapanya meninggal dunia.
5) Dr Hala : Pensyarah kedoktoran di Universiti al-Azhar
6) Dr Istisyhad : Pensyarah ekonomi Islam. Berada dalam kandungan ibunya ketika bapanya syahid.
I'm impressed.
Click here and here to read more.
This book is for every father. And mother. A good book for parenting. Saya merayu..if you have RM11.50 extra in your pocket, please do invest in this book and read it together with your spouse. If you don't feel like reading, just buy it and give this as a gift to a friend on her/his wedding or to a friend who just got his daddy-ship title from Allah. I'm pretty sure, your small investment would make a big change to those who read it, and change your paradigm on how to become a great father to your children after finished reading it.
My 2 pence ^_^

Bidadari Dari Timur

I just finished reading the book, Bidadari Dari Timur, Memoir Isteri Seorang Pejuang minutes ago with big fat tears as I closed the book. I started reading it last 2 nights while trying to put Nadirah to sleep and alhamdulillah managed to finish it today.
Behind every great man is a great woman and this book definitely proves that. Hmm.. Not sure how to put this into a sane sentence, but I would strongly recommend this book as "Must Read" for all great women out there and it also makes a meaningful wedding gift to brides.
I'm still speechless. I feel like I just discovered an exceptional manual on 'How to become a Great Wife' in this book. I'm nowhere near Khadijah (to Rasulullah) and this living proof is an exemplary to all of us. I'm truly glad that she decided to note down her life story in this little book (wish the book is thicker and the stories are longer!) and I hope she'll do more in the future. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah.
You can get the book from here, worth it!
Seandainya direntasi laut segara,
Tiada yang bisa menandingi lautan tabahmu,
Seandainya gunung dijadikan pasak,
Belum tentu seteguh setiamu,
Seandainya ditawarkan buatku seorang isteri,
Harga: RM12.90 (only small amount of money needed to know the great story of the great couple of our time!)
Halaman:128
Excerpt from the book:
Sengaja aku bertimpuh di balik pintu mendengar rintihan hati seorang suami buat Tuhannya;
Ya Allah Ya Aziz Ya Rahman Ya Rahim
Pengetahuanku pada kemurahan-Mu
Itulah yang memberhentikan aku di Pintu-Mu
Bagaimana aku akan kecewa?
Sedangkan Engkaulah harapanku
Bagaimana aku hina?
Sedangkan Kaulah tempat sandaran
Bagaimana aku akan mulia berbangga?
Sedangkan Engkau menempatkanku
Bagaimana aku akan miskin?
Padahal Engkaulah yang mencukupkan
Hidupkanlah hati-hati ini
Dengan makrifat-Mu
Matikanlah kami
Sebagai pejuang agama-Mu
Puaskanlah keluargaku dengan aturan-Mu
Berbanding aturan kami sendiri
Bantulah aku dalam menunaikan tanggungjawab selaku pemimpin
Ingatkanlah aku,
Bahawa aku hanya seorang hamba

Mengapa perlu SOLUSI?
Perlu apa lagi sebuah majalah Islam diterbitkan?
(Surah al-Qasas: 26)

Pesta Buku Antarabangsa KL 2009 Part II
About the book fair - if you are planning to go, make sure you plan before hand where you wanna go. Check the floor plan at the Ruang Legar Utama PWTC where the main stage is so that you know which hall to go and not wasting your time bustling inside the busy hall.
All in all, must go if you have time and wanna find books at bargain price! Yes, there are lotsss of baby's books production- Grolier, Ben And Bella, ReadNetwork (Siri Cepat Membaca Bacalah Anakku - visit the author's blog here), Al-Ameen Serve Holdings Sdn Bhd (Buku Siri Cepat Membaca Ameen) and many more. We were 'trapped' by the salesperson of Ben and Bella but sorry brader, we're not interested. huhuh. We've adopted another program for HnyB called 'Your Baby Can Read' and bought the books, flash cards and CDs from mybbstore.
Erk, actually, 3 days before the Bookfair, I went to another book fair and bought 27 booksssss! Was a bit crazy coz the price crash was irresistible, RM5 per book maa, where got! I'll blog about it later, I'm still over the moon with the books I've bought :-) Hehe.
Because of that, we did'nt shop much at the Fair. Sapa mau baca buku yg dah beratur kat shelf tu nanti! huhu. Ok, let see what we've grabbed from the fair:

1.Sunshade for car RM7 per pair, RRP RM10, which can also be purchased here. Bought at TELAGA BIRU booth. It is written - Dengan mengingati Allah, jiwa akan menjadi tenang. (with cartoon illustration. How kool is dat to have a sunshade that at the same time advice other drivers on the road when they read it to drive tenang2 sikit :-) Superkool.
2. Goodnight Stories from the Quran by Goodwordkidz- ini pun superkool. I've eyeing this long time ago from MyFirstStep website. RRP RM75, bought for RM60, hardcover, 33 short stories from the Quran, splendid colourful illustration, must have for every household.
3. FlashCards! RM8 big box (RM12.50 kot RRP), RM5 small box, RM10 Kid's First Touch Series. All after discounted price.
4. The Story of Two Gardeners from Quran Stories for Little Hearts Series by Goodwordkidz. RRP RM9, sold for RM5. There are 20 storybooks in this series. I asked one for free from the shop after buying item #2.
5. CDs - I Look I See & I Look I See 2 - Cat Steven@Yusuf Islam. Nadirah lovessss 'em. I sang to her nasyids #1 to #10 from I Look I See 2 and she bubbles air liur together with me. Fun fun! Bought that from Saba' Islamic Media. Got Ani's cassette for free. Another CD Mesut Kurtis-Salawat RM20, RRP RM35. Actually we just love 1 song - Burdah. Try google the song and listen it, sedappp.

1. 5 books borong from Anbakri Publika Sdn Bhd - Publisher of TGNAA books. We bought - Bertemu Janji Allah, Bertemu Janji Allah II, Cinta DI Rumah Hassan Al-Banna, Belajar Dari Para Wali, Bidadari Dari Timur (1st book written by TGNAA's wife and the co-author who was there signed my book!) and Telaga Budi with the matching paperbag. Puas hati den.
2. Most awaited books by Ust Hasrizal - Bercinta Sampai Ke Syurga and Rindu Bau Pohon Tin. Bugs, buku Bercinta Sampai Ke Syurga is lanjutan after Aku Terima Nikahnya - buku cerita aku kasik mase wedding ko tuh! Beli2.. mesti beli.. hehehe. Bought at Galeri Ilmu booth, just besides Anbakri Publika's booth. Lalala..my heart is singing, gembira dapat 2 buku nih... :-)

Family Weekend
Last weekend was full with family gathering activities. On Saturday, MIL, SILs (Kak Wati and Kak Na), BIL(Abg Eik) and 6 anak buah came over to visit Nadirah, the new cucu of Wan. Wan arrived earlier from Kuantan by bus so I just prepared lunch for the 3 of us. The rest came after Asar. Didn't cook anything except ayam goreng, the rest, coutersy of WAHAB's The Best Cendol In Town. Nyum2.
Ha, alas, Abi and Mummy decided to buy 'Buaian' for Nadirah last saturday. Dy terlampau suke berayun sampai lengan Abi n Mummy bermuscle mcm mangkuk ayun. Before ade buai, we have to rock her manually till she fell asleep. Love is tough. Hoho. Plus, rumah pengasuh Nadirah pun ade buai, so nak tak nak, we have to get one for her. Kang x nak balik rumah pulak kang.
Sunday, we had big family lunch at Sabak, a steamboat restaurant at Taman Melati. At first I thot it was named after Sabak Bernam, Nope! It's named after Pantai Sabak in Kelantan. As always, it's hard for me to complain about food so to me, the food there is as good as the other.

After that, we went to our fav surau Al-Kauthsar for Zuhr prayer and changed nappy. Next pit-stop, K4. First time bawak nadirah to a crowded hyper market - wahhh, challenging! Seriously, not suitable for babies under 3 months old. Bought some groceries, kain flannel to swaddle my baby at Nagoya, and flash card JAWI at a bookstore near Nagoya. Hanis, they have Jawi flash card! Actually I was looking for Iqra' Flash Card, tp xde, so I just bought the Jawi FC and kitab Iqra' (RM15) for HnyB. Nampaknyeh kene buat sendirik la kot FC for Iqra'.
Anyway, I found an alternative to Iqra' - Al-Furqan. It comes with VCD nasyid Al-Furqan (complimentary with the bookset) and Flash card (new add-on) as well. I've yet to compare between Al-Furqan with Iqra' and will do coz I have both. Bought Al-Furqan bookset from adikbijak.com during pregnancy and I love playing the VCD for HnyB every morning when she was residing happily in mummy's tummy. Oh yes, similar to Iqra' - Bacalah, the concept remains the same - just Read it, no more spell the huruf out one by one. The thing I like about Al-Furqan is because it has 'alat bantu mengajar', the nasyids are cute - you can actually introduce your child to huruf2 tu using the nasyid, the presentation in the book is more attractive than Iqra' and my bonus plus-point is because I can buy the books online. (moi an online shopper-holic) Till now I can't find an online shop selling Iqra'.
To date, I've bought few books from the website and I am very satisfied with the service. Nadirah enjoys herself everytime Abi flashes the big cards to her. Mcm budak besar je Nadirah ni.
Ok, dats all for now. Hv to finish some serious work now. I'll be out of the office from tomorrow till Friday, attending seminar on nuclear energy! :-)
Till then.

Books on my shelf
I'm trying to commit myself reading all the books I've bought; hopefully it works this time. Ok, as for March, my target is to finish at least these 4 books. (refer my bookshelf :-) If the books are not on the shelf anymore, it means that I've finished reading 'em! Seeing my virtual bookshelf will remind me that I have 'hutang membace buku' to myself and I must clear the shelf asap and restock new set of books. Iqra'.. Bacalah.
- I've bought this book many mooooonnssss ago from Azila after attending 'Kursus Solat' organized by the author, Ust Zaharuddin at UIA. I still remember writing an email to all my female colleagues recommending this book as a must have for every family and MUST READ. They way the author explains on how to 'sempurnakan' solat right from wudu' to salam will make us realize how little our knowledge is on solat - the main pillar of iman and islam. Kalau solat pun hancus, lain2 pasti hancus, nauzubillah. Attending one kursus solat and reading one book on solat won't guarantee our solat to be tip-top tahap dewa and super-kusyu', but of course, it is an investment to saham akhirat, our ikhtiar and usaha to improve our solat. Mudah2an Allah catat as amal baik dan diterima olehNya.
- The 174-pages-book is arranged in a very structured manner, suitable for us - adults. The glossy-paper-pages are colourful and interactive; definitely not an ordinary 'Buku Teks Pendidikan Islam'. The author tries to open-up readers mind that knowing how to solat is not enough yet - we have to know from which hadith, whose ijtihad, which mazhab agreed with that (emphasize given to Mazhab Shafi'e) etc and the author had done a great deal of work - referring all the kitab2 muktabar (and include everything as footnote just in case we want to find out more). Ayat aku mcm tergantung. Abaikan.
- Ok, in short, give this book a try. If we want to teach our children how to pray, we have to know better and this is a great manual/guidance/reference. It can also be a great gift to anyone - me n hubby currently have a new habit - giving books as pressies on wedding or saje2 kasik to sibblings, friends. Pisman!)
- You can get the book from MPH for RM25.90. Lebih murah dr tambang bas KL-Kota Bharu.

Pregnancy and Birth

This is one of the reviews in amazon.co.uk. Aku malas nak tulis another review here since I totally agreed with what they hv to say about the book.
What I love about this book is the fact you're really getting two books in
one. On the one hand, you've got the story of a woman going from conception to
birth, with her thoughts, feelings and concerns,(her diary from week to week)
which makes a humourous and touching read. On the other, you've got a factual
reference; researched to include the latest advice from UK medical
professionals.
The fact that this book really is funny meant that it's the only
pregnancy book my hubby has managed to finish. And that's saying something -
he's not a keen reader. Within a few days of him starting this book, he was
really playing an active and more understanding role in our pregnancy.
So if you're looking for a compelling read that will really tell you
how it is, this book is a must.
Ha, there you go. MrJ hasnt read it yet tho. Hehe. If you're looking for a book that is fun and at the same time educate you what's going on week-by-week during the preggy period and assure you that being fat is normal, then this book is for you. Personally, I feel at home and at ease reading this book is mainly because the woman in the book went thru the same thing like me just b4 pregnancy - operation to remove cyst.
Will write more about other books later.
